These questions are prepared for the upcoming Grade 8 Aural Training iPhone Application Program. Now they are published here for students’ practice at home to improve their musical aural ability. More will be uploaded soon.

Instruction for Students: Write down your answers on a sheet of paper. You will keep it to yourself and check your answers against the correct one (which will be published later in another post here). You can listen to each question as many times as you need to. And if you don’t see all the sound files, reload the page again. Each question should have three parts (and you only have to listen to two).

Reminder: Perfect Cadence: V-I (dominant – tonic); Imperfect Cadence: I/II/IV/VI- V; Plagal Cadence: IV-I (subdominant – tonic); Interrupted Cadence: V-VI (dominant-submediant)

關於聆聽訓練應用程式中文版 (五級) :

聽力測試(Aural Test)在皇家音樂樂院(ABRSM)的五級樂器試內只佔150分內的18分。所以當我們預備考試的時候, 不太在意這個部份, 大量的時間及資源都花在預備三首音樂(共佔90分), 音階及琶音(21分)。經常勿略視奏(Sight, Reading)和聽力測試(Aural Test)。除了佔分不高外, 高昂的訓練費用及教材的缺乏也令有心人難於獲得適當的訓練。於是, 大家都沒有怎樣去為這兩個項目預備, 彷彿演奏一些曲目, 視奏及聽力的能力就會順便被培養出來, 到考試時就會自自然然地發揮出來。

其實, 靈敏的聽力對演奏修練是相輔相承的。舉一個極端的例子, 一個聲帶原好的聾人通常也會是一個啞子。因為沒有聽力, 是不能夠聽到別人及自已的語音, 不能學習另人的說話, 也不會知道自己的語音的對錯, 從而更正自已。同樣地, 一個十指修長有力的學生, 如果沒有用耳去注意自己及別人演奏的效果, 不能懂得欣賞別人的演奏也不能分辨自已的演奏是否達到要求, 演奏的進步是有限的。因此, 我們不可因為聽力測試的佔分少而不去訓練這個項目。

正如學習語言一樣,音樂聆聽能力是須要花時間,大量的教材及重複的練習去培養的。iPhone App Aural gr5 有155條題目,下載後,同學可以在任何時候任何地方自行練習,培養更佳的聽力。我們根據皇家音樂學院(ABRSM)五級樂器試聽力測試(Aural Test)所訂下的課程大綱而編制訓練程式。這個程式分成三部份:甲乙丙。在甲部考生聽完一段旋律後要演奏或唱出該旋律。我們特設了錄音功能, 讓同學錄下自己的旋律後再跟原本的旋律比較, 從而得知自己的準確度;乙部考生聽完主和及第一音後要視唱樂譜上的音, 同學可以觸按音符聽一聽正確的音對比自己的音準;丙部是音樂欣賞, 考生聽完一段音樂後要盡量指出其特質, 如調性, 速度節奏, 風格時期等, 我們有55條例句讓同學研習, 確保同學涉足不同的特質, 獲得充足的訓練。

Aural Training App Gr5 for iPhone, iPad & iPod touch

Aural training is essential skill that any music students must possess but all so often such training is much neglected in students’ everyday music learning and lessons.

This application aims to help music students train their aural ability so that they can be better equipped with such skill on their own outside regular lesson times and therefore well prepared for the aural test part which is essential in achieving success in their instrumental exams (grade 5 or equivalent) presented by Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), Trinity College of Music and other music associations alike.

This application is also useful for those who are not preparing for exams but wish to improve their aural ability in this similar level.

This grade 5 training programme has three parts. In Part A, students are required to listen to a short phrase of music twice, then sing or play it back in response. In Part B, students need to read from the score and sing six notes of the same key accordingly in free time. In Part C, students have to listen to a short piece of music, and answer questions in areas of articulation, tempo, tonality, dynamics and character. Then student would listen to an extract from the same music twice, clap the rhythm out and tell the time of the music (in 2, 3, or 4 time). All the music excerpts in Part C are performed by Miss Wong on her grand piano and recorded with fine microphones so that musical details are retained.

Both Part A and Part C have a recording feature, so that you can record your own singing/clapping and compare your answers with the correct ones instantly. For Part B, you can tap on each note to listen to the correct answer and at the same time check against your own singing. All these exciting features would definitely enhance your learning experience and maximize your learning result.

This Grade 5 application has 55 questions for each part, i.e. 165 questions in total. A lite version is available for trial.
