(Chapter 8: Practice Makes Perfect: Only If You Know How)

練習是一道連接課堂和表演不可或缺的橋樑。沒有了練習,就不能讓技巧更臻完美,不能理解音樂,也就學不了甚麼。

我假設所有人都會練習。但為甚麼有些人突發猛進,有些人卻舉步維艱?是甚麼讓練習變得有效呢?

很多學生,尤其是年幼的或低級別的,提起練習時態度總是拖拖拉拉,而且認為練習只是把整首樂曲從頭到尾彈一次,彈得越多越好。這不是練習,而只是把樂曲彈完。

在我開始談論應該怎樣練習之前,先說清楚我們為甚麼要練習。有些小孩子並不明白為甚麼他們會被迫練習,誤以為練習是一件老師和父母加諸自己身上的苦差。另外一些學生就認為越快練好一首樂曲,就代表他們彈得比較好,所以當他們驚訝地發現要花多很多的時間練習一首樂曲時,就會很沮喪,甚至放棄練習。

為甚麼我們要練習?

一.我們練習是為了理解一篇音樂作品,包括它的音樂內容、結構、表情、個性和風格。透過練習,我們了解到那篇作品的細節,包括分句、強弱編排、演奏法(articulation)、旋律線條的抑揚頓挫、節奏和演奏速度等。

二.我們練習是為了把作品演奏得十全十美。理解樂曲之後,就要用自己雙手把它演繹出來。把我們心中理解到的傳到雙手,再由雙手傳到鋼琴上。這樣我們對作品的理解就會透過鋼琴傳達給聽眾。

三.我們練習是為了透過鋼琴這個媒介,在課堂、表演、考試和比賽中和別人分享我們對作品的演繹。

我們怎樣練習?

練習 (practice) 和彈奏或演奏整篇樂章 (performance) 是完全不同的。練習時,大多時間都不會完整地彈出一篇作品(除非是初學者) ,亦不會每次都重頭到尾彈完一首樂曲。反而,練習是花更多時間去仔細耹聽和彈奏小段或零星部分的樂段。

練習是分階段操練一首樂曲中的困難部分。你可以先把整個樂曲彈奏一兩次,找出在曲中遇到的問題後,記下自己彈得不如意的部分,集中精神,逐一去耐心處理和解決每個問題,最後連起各個部分,彈出一首完整的樂曲。

練習就好像拼拼圖。視乎樂曲的難度和長短,以及個人的演奏能力而定,這可以是一幅500塊或10000塊的拼圖,你或者要花一星期或一年才拼好。就像拼拼圖一樣,開始時總是最困難的:你根本無從入手。但當你尤其是在開始時很有耐性地去拼,就會找到更多能讓你拼到下一塊的線索。隨著你投入更多努力和時間,拼好的地方就會越來越大。你也會更清楚下一步要怎樣做。這時候你就會越拼越起勁。
